Leonardo da Vinci: Brief biographical overview

Evidence of this has only survived in drawings and documents - . Leonardo dissected corpses and wrote a treatise on anatomy. He examined the corpses at night, because dissecting corpses was considered blasphemy and was punishable by imprisonment. Leonardo performed a total of 30 autopsies. He also dissected cows, bears and monkeys. In his anatomy studies, he was the first to discover the effects of arteriosclerosis. As a naturalist, he studied bird flight and currents in air and water.
